You bring up a very good point. While I have not ever really spoken about aviation
history with this individual, I have with 3 other former PanAm pilots...plus I also have my
Dad's log books and his memoirs. Of all the things that my Dad left me, I treasure his
log books the most. I found the day around 1954 where he took me out of school and let
me fly with him in N88884, a DC-4 to LAX and back. I got 20 minutes of time in that
aircraft and she's still around, as a gate guard somewhere in Spain.
I am guilty of not actually using tape as a medium to record the past, but have through
my life, been very encouraging to older folks, both rails and aviators, to relate stories
and such.
BTW, I left out the name of Bob Finley, Navigator on the crew to the South Pole. They
were on the ice for only 3.5 hours.
