Close.

After their days assigned to LA as mainline Coast power, the 4000-4005 were transferred to the Coast Division and the 4006-4009 to the San Joaquin Division, for use in local service. Some of the LA Division RS-11 and RSD-12s were transferred to the San Joaquin Division, as well. The six assigned to the Coast spent the majority of the time working out of San Jose and Bayshore, and were preferred power for Peninsula locals as their quick acceleration made them popular when used as rescue units on commute trains. The units could be seen in other locations from time to time, such as in Oakland when moving to and from Sacramento for work, or when no other units were available.

Around '73 or '74 (help me out on this, Wes) the San Joaquin units were reassigned to Western Division Switcher Pool (known as Pool A - the switcher pools had a letter, the freight pools had a number), and could be seen all over the Bay Area.

During the next big purge, they were sent to Ogden and Texas.

4007 was the last of the group, not being retired at Houston til early 1980.

These units were personal faves of mine, although they were uncomfortable to operate when backing up due to the location of the air brake stand.
