The western slope of the sierra has always been a sticky mess with little to no wayside access once a couple of feet pile up, snowbound and derailed snow clearing equipment and trains galore. That type of snow doesnt; compare to anything the dry midwest snow has to offer, along with numerous tunnel and sheds where large chunks of ice build up qickly. It is a completely different ballgame. If you doubt what I say, ask yourself where elese on the system has multiple rotary plows and spreaders at standby, and where else has such a storied past of disabling storms.
Even the district around Mt. Shasta doesn't compare, and Nebraska and Montana don't either.
Experience in clearing snow in wyoming simply doesn't compare to keeping the line open and serviceable from Blu Canon to Eder.
