The casinos in Nevada tell a different story. When my wife & I went to Reno 2 years ago for our wedding, I was quite disappointed at seeing how many casinos had closed; even Harolds Club. When I asked a local merchant what happened, he said the rise of tribal casinos in western states has crippled Nevada gambling. This makes sense when I think of the new tribal casinos here in Washington in the 15 years I've lived here. A change in state gambling laws in 1996 allows for house - banked card games & table games not previously allowed. Now instead of flying or driving to Reno, I can lose my money 5 miles from home !!! I also recall driving past a large tribal casino in Roseville ??? on I - 80 enroute to Reno; many others have sprung up in Fallbrook / Temecula. As for Las Vegas, my father stopped going there when the town became Disneyland North; Laughlin is an hour closer to SoCal anyways.
