Conspiracy Theory

I would imagine the study relies on data that is several years, probably predating, to a large extent, the current recession and massive decline in oil consumption.

There have been dozens of new oil discoveries in the last few years, all over the world. Up in Alaska, in the Dakotas, in Colorado, in the Gulf, in Canada, Off the coast of Brazil…just to name a few. I doubt these discoveries were taken into account.

One might consider the ulterior motivations of the Kuwaitis and others in the Middle East to press on a scare tactic in terms of oil. Few would argue that the Middle East may in fact be running out of oil as we speak and within a few decades there may not be much left. This doesn’t mean the world will run out, but the Arab countries in the Middle East are single source economies and they would be absolutely devastated if they ran out. And so would all those multi-billionaire sheiks and kings.

So, what’s one way to keep oil flowing longer, when you have less of it as a country? Make it more expensive, so you get the same amount of money for less oil pumped out. That’s why many of these countries support limits on oil production and even environmental rules that limit how much oil we can use. It’s all to their benefit. If other sources of oil and even our abundance of coal, which can be made into liquid fuel (the Germans did it in World war two to power their aircraft), were allowed to be utilized, the super rich in the middle east would be screwed. Not only because the price of oil would drop, but consumption would go up and they would need to pump out more to keep up with their expenses. Which means they will run out sooner.

This may sound like a whacky conspiracy theory, but the history books have proven far wackier scenarios. Besides...the new discoveries cannot be denied. You can simply look them up. And limits on oil production from the middle east are a daily fact, even to the point of causing major historical events, such as wars and oil crisises. What is harder to prove is just how close the middle east is to running out of oil, since those governments will not release real and accurate data. But there is a lot of American blood in those sands and I doubt it's all about making people free. If we really cared about freedom and democracy, there are billions of people on this planet lacking it, that we don't even give a second thought too.
