I have my own projection on petroleum reserves which is utterly and totally a guess: 200 years to burn it all, roughly, beginning with 50 years to find every last bit, 50 more to exploit it, and 100 more to consume effectively every last drop. As I said, strictly pulled out of the air, but probably as good as the offical propaganda.
When it comes to the fairness of our current economic order, I cannot defend it. It is strictly trickle up. But if you want to pay operators $100,000 a year plus paying 100% of health benefits including dental, you are going to have to tax the Larry Ellisons, Gordon Gettys, Richard Blums, Meg Whitmanss, etc., etc., etc. of California to pay for it because the ordinary schlubs not only have no money but have less of no money every day.
Some economists are suggestng that inflation will be necessary to float all the under-water mortgages. That should be interesting.
I acknowledge the argument in favor of heavy, boilerplate railroad equipment, but what about all the buses on the road that are like papier-mache comparatively speaking? On the other hand really heavy streetcars in particular increase residents' complaints about noise and vibration and are hard on the track.
