Narrowband equipment will be mandatory effective January 1, 2013.
Got that off the FCC site. I can't speak for railroads and their timetable, but my fire dept is mandated by then, we should be doing it this summer. Going narrowband will free up more frequencies and in theory halt a lot of the bleed over in some areas between frequencies.
