First of all, one of the posters above says they personally cleaned up a conductors blood. Conductors are working people, and if someone caused them to bleed on the job, enough it needs to be cleaned up, well... they will most probably get what they deserve, regardless of how good a job their public defender does. And being a conductor is not just any job, of course. It is the equivalent of a ships captain, and every soul both on the train, and near the tracks, is depending on his professional skills to keep safe. Whatever happened on this train was wrong, period, and it is beyond my imagination that a professional RR conductor would instigate something like this.
That said, yes it is far too many lawyers looking for a paycheck. The public defenders, in general, are the only one with clean hands. Politicians are almost always lawyers, judges are lawyers, prosecutors are lawyers. The prison industry complex hires thousands of lawyers, the prison guards unions too. The insurance companies, who will definitely be involved, hire more lawyers than the entire government(s) put together. Subverting "innocent until proven guilty", into "pretty much guilty unless you can afford to hire a lawyer and get lucky" makes a whole lot of people a whole lot of money. It's the *new* American way.
