Have any of you critical posters about Steam trains ever been responsible for the movemnet of these archaic monsters across your RailRoad?
How many times has the 4449 been on the UP portion of the old
SP since the UP took over? I wonder why so few.
The only way to describe some of you "Railfans" around a steam locomotive is you become. "Brain Dead Trainnuts".
If you need proof read some of the posts on this site when the 4449 went east last year.
The last time I had anything to do with the movement of the 4449 on the Sacramento Division we authorized a CHP officer to ride in the Locomotive to advise his patrolmen over on I-5 the location of the train to keep the "Trainnuts" from killing each other and other motorists in traffic accidents.
Try being the one responsible for getting the local fire departments to use their hydrants, hoses and personell to water these monsters. Contributions (money) to their charities generally worked but RR of W forces assisted in the physial labor to expedite the move at RR expense.
To get these monsters across your property especially Sacramento to Ogden you had to rape your railroad to get them across with out too much delay to them and other traffic. I certainly agree with MDO.
