There used to be a couple of former Westside Lumber Company shays that previously were up to the task of dealing with the grades and curves, on the narrow gauge Georgetown Loop. Seems there was considerable press, not too long ago, about the shays being "out of work," along with a dedicated family of experienced narrow gauge and standard gauge railroaders. Apparently CHS administrators, with a political agenda, determined that all that experience was "not needed." Hopefully CHS administrators do not have any influence on the historic, operations on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR, or at the Colorado RR Museum. Both of which are exceptional railroad preservation efforts, by the way.
What effects does the loss of tourist dollars have on the surrounding communities, when steam trains full of paying customers, are not traversing the historic Georgetown Loop?
