The SP&S 700 will be operating July 12 thru 14 on the Oregon Pacific Railroad out of Oaks Park in Portland. Adjacent to the track for over three miles is the Springwater Trail from which you are welcome to take as many photos as you want within ten feet from the train. While I can't be sure about choppers, you will more than likely hear the roar of jet boats on the river or hear the cry of mating Ospreys on the electrical towers in Oaks Bottom.
Along with the 700 I will be operating at least four of my historic diesels; the Portland Traction SW-1 #100 "the most famous diesel in the Northwest" former SamTrac 45-tonner #4501 (the first common carrier remote controlled locomotive in the Northwest) GP7u #1810 (from "Under Siege II" fame) and the original SP GE-70 tonner #5100. OPR's newest unit #1202 (former CP 1202) will also be in attendence. While not particularly "historic" she sure is purty!! If you can afford $12 to $50, you can ride on the train or even in the cab of one of the diesels OR THE 700.
Speedeer groups will also be offering speeder rides in conjunction with the passenger trips to the public. If you have $5 left after the double header steam extravaganza, you're on board a speeder!! If you spent ALL of your money on souveniers supporting the steam program (and can prove it!) come see me and I will see to it that you can ride something as my guest. If for some reason you don't have a good time, please complain to to ME as the buck stops here!
OPR and the Pacific Railway Prreservation Association invite EVERYBODY to come and enjoy our hospitality and visit the unofficial OPR website developed by Brian McCamish by Googling "Oregon Pacific Railroad" for schedules on the event or the history of the historic OPR.
