Unless I'm mistaken, he has never ridden the Auto Train. I'm not familiar enough with the trackage back east, so maybe he has ridden that entire route over a different Amtrak train? Or is the Auto Train the only one to cover those tracks?
My two favorites are the Coast Starlight and the California Zephyr. I am probably in the minority here, but I will go ahead and say that FOR ME, the most BORING long-distance train ride is the Southwest Chief. I've ridden it several times, and I have no desire to ride it again unless I'm heading to La Plata. But even then, I would probably take the Zephyr to.....hmmmm......I forget the name of the station where the Depot Inn will come and pick you up for free. But to me, The Chief is just miles and miles of the same dry, brown scenery over and over again.
