I would echo the comments made regarding the North Coast Hiawatha route. In August 1979 I rode it from Billings, MT., West to Seattle,WA. From following the Yellowstone River, to the descent of Homestake Pass into Butte, and Stevens Pass the next morning; WOW !!! I only wish the train hadn't been 2 hours late into Billings; I could have enjoyed even more scenery from the Budd Dome.
For current routes, the Cascades from Seattle, WA., to Vancouver, B.C., has my vote. Second would be the Coast Starlight from Oxnard to San Luis Obispo, CA.
