Most major and minor derailments usually go unreported in the news, the railroads want it to be like that. I would say for every one derailment you hear about there are 3 others just like it you never hear about.

The derailment you saw was 15 cars of soda ash. About 1/4 mile of track was damaged. UP had the line open again Monday night.
