It makes you wonder what kind of politicking is going on behind the scenes. Does it have to do with SMART lobbying for Sprinter-like light weight cars instead of heavy dmu's? But a posting on the hsr blog claimed SMART had already gone out to bid on its cars.

Could be a delaying tactic due to the bad economy. But the establishment business pundits predict a downturn in the next few years.

Whitman is the wild card. My impression of her is that, if elected, she will pull the plug on interminable life-line projects like NCRA-NWP.

SMART is going to face really serious fare problems. GGT is in the process of raising ferry fares by a third.
