I think it was Richard Armour or Ogden Nash who parodied Joyce Kilmer thusly:

I think that I shall never see
A billboard lovely as a tree
And if the billboards do not fall
I'll never see a tree at all.

Of course, trees are fairly scarce in the industrial parts of LA and in the Antelope Valley, but that doesn't make "outdoor advertising" less obnoxious.
