Northbay insider politics can be quite byzantine. You can't really blame SMART's thoroughly crappy planning on the Arnolds and the other anti-rail leaders. There is a large block of opinion in Marin County and to a lesser degree in Sonoma County which considers SMART a hopeless boondoggle, blowing money on a frivolity when basic transit services are being cut due to lack of funding and dwindling ridership.

I suspect the NCRA-WP vs. SMART tussle is mostly political theatre. What happens if SMART debuts and there is hardly any traffic? I'll believe it when I hear the NWP's horns at my house the way we used to 20 years ago.
