This is an interesting development.... fired? That is not ususally how these things are handled at that level?
Amtrak seems to be trying to make some changes and has had some recent opportunities and funding to make progress on a backlog of needs. But, there is a certain Amtrak management culture that seems to stifle innovation, that has grown used to thinking in terms of "patch up" solutions, and appears to have become averse to taking on difficult challenges, or making long term systemic changes.
Amtrak keeps suffering from senior leadership turnover and an incomplete Board, too. And, that hasn't exactly lead to much of a strategic course being plotted or implemented for the organization. This recent history of leadership turnover and the lack of serious Board oversight appears to have increased internal "turfism" within the organization, as well.
