I should have added that this locomotive was built for impaired clearances in a mine
and has a very low profile, especially for a standard gauge machine.
Warren Smith reminded me of a story involving the 3 at Castro Point. PLA member Pete
Rogers did a great deal of the work on her and you'd have to say that she was his pet.
There was no fuel tank at the rear and no real seats either. You could sit down while
running her, but the throttle was kinda high to reach so mostly she was operated while
standing. Well, one time Pete gets on her and gives the throttle a yank and over he went,
right off the back and onto the ground as the little 3 meandered along through the yard
until somebody ran and stopped her progress. The only thing that was hurt on Pete was
his pride but that would have been the case with anyone.
