I can vouch for the North Coast Hiawatha run; I rode it from Billings to Seattle just before it was cut in 1979. It was a great trip, though I would have enjoyed it more if it hadn't been 2 hours late.
Missed opportunities for me include:
1) Not checking out Milwaukee Road Lines West during the same month I spent in Billings.
2) Amtrak's Pioneer route
3) Alki Tours excursions over Stampede Pass; I only made it to standby
4) Riding any NRHS excursion runs down the Oregon Trunk; maybe this will still happen ???
5) Fanning Soldier Summit & Front Range during Rio Grande days
6) Fanning Espee's Lone Pine branch, Modoc, Siskiyou, or Altamont Pass line
7) Fanning Feather River Cyn during Western Pacific days
8) Fanning McCloud, OC & E, O & NW,CP & LT, or other 'modern' logging roads
9) Riding VIA's 'real' Canadian before the reroute & price increase
These were all do - able for me; I simply chose not to go. Moral of the story: Get Your Photos NOW !!! My list is already too long...
