One L/C, let's say BLE, would ask a series of questions, then the trainmen's L/C (UTU) would ask the same series, THEN the "fireman's" L/C, also UTU, would ask the same series. At one point the presiding officer got so flustered he ordered someone off Company property, which was difficult to do because they were holding the investigation at a motel. The company tried to prevent an expert from the CDF from tesitifying because they knew he would state to the effect that there was nothing the crew could have done, which he eventually did (got all this directly from an L/C who participated in the investigation).
>You have blamed the wrong guy. It was WJL not LPM. He was replaced by Dave Medley
We need a sandhouse telephone game warning system. The person who told me this saw LPM stomping around in the mud at Chorro, but he probably wasn't in the position to know who was calling the shots for LPM. I had left SP employment by this time, so I don't know who came after LPM. In the 18+ years I was there, I figured out later that there was a new West Div Sup't on an average of every 15-18 months during all those years, including WMJ who was there for almost the entire first 10.
WJL nad a valid point about efficiency testing, but the rather forceful way he went about it resulted in his not being respected. From the men's room at Tracy:
There once was a brakeman from Tracy
Who got efficiency tested by Lacy.
When asked which way went the rule of the day,
Said, why don't you go sit on your face, see?
