Yeah 100 cars per mile per year seems very vague and outrageous when there are so many different factors affecting the economic success of a shortline. Where did this figure come from? Since the grade crossings are all brand new high tech and low maintenance, that should be a minimal cost for a long time. They pay zero taxes on their track (property) and likely have a sweet deal with Matt Munson for use of the Geeps. That genset is a huge drain and a total waste. They probably pay more for that ($5000 per hour) than they do ALL of their employees. If the NWP can maintain 5-10 cars per week with two roundtrips, they should break even. They won't be rich, but establishing a reliable reputation after nearly 20 years of horrible service is the most important goal right now. If they are smart (pun intended), they can and will draw new/old customers back and will prosper as a result.
