SMART is the project of a coterie of Northbay political insiders who crafted a scheme to their tastes. Most notably they spurned many community suggestions they drop the Bugatti doodlebugs in favor of loco-hauled. A key player in this circus is one Doug Bosco with strong ties to the political machine that dominates the Bay Area.

IMHO the NCRA-NWP and mass transit are incompatible. Sooner or later the political decision will have to be made whether it is proper for taxpayers to subsidize NWP freight operations. I think the truckers in particular would have a strong case to make against it.
