I brought up the 101 alternative on the hsr blog site many times but to little avail. The argument was made the curvature is too extreme. Of course I was talking about an aerial not expropriating any traffic lanes. That would be heresy to say the least.

Personally I believe BART is pimping Ring the Bay thru MTC, which BART effectively dominates. If BART wins imho that is the end of hsr on the SP ROW as the area known as PAMPA would push for a 2 track subway similar to Berkeley's. The gentrification would probably pay for itself. No room for hsr.

Overall I prefer the Altamont-Dumbarton route to an SFO terminus for hsr myself.
