The GPS would have comprised the back-up system, like one large effort wasn't enough. My response
when asked by the nice man type representative was that the PTC system as envisioned would most certainly accomplish what was intended, that nothing was totally fail safe and that the crew was
still the best active control. He seemed satisfied and moreso when the complexity of the integration of the two systems and the dollars spent was considered. Though a friend, at least he
asked and it didn't end up being 2200 pages to prevent two collisions a year.
