The original routing of this year's AAPRCO convention train was UP between New Orleans and Kansas City. As you can see from their updated webpage, they're now saying it's going on Warren Buffett's pike. Does anyone know why the switch occurred? And does anyone have any specifics of the BNSF routing?
Isn't UP contractually obligated by law to handle special Amtrak movements, of which the AAPRCO special would be? How else could one explain how the now-defunct American Orient Express made frequent appearences in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City?
We are planning an Amtrak special train, which will be named the "AAPRCO Eagle", one way from New Orleans, Louisiana to Kansas City, Missouri, operating on BNSF. The special train will begin on Sunday, October 16th with a two hour run on the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad in the vicinity of the French Quarter and the Mississippi riverfront. Then it will depart New Orleans. We will arrive at Kansas City Union Station on Wednesday, October 19th.
