>That was one of the hardest parts of "converting" to the new "GCOR way" of doing things. Before, it was just timetable bulletins and superintendent notices.

Not very much has changed, just the names of the documents. The Book of Rules is now the GCOR. What were TTBs are now GOs, and they cover the very same topics. The superintendent's notices have been changed to terminal notices, or something like that. The big change I noticed between the old Rule Book and the GCOR was that the GCOR used much better English grammar and constructions than the Book of Rules to discuss precisely the same topics.

>The lastest version was all that you had to review because all the information beforehand was to be rolled-up into the most current copy.

This is what the UP currently does with its general orders today -- all you need is in the latest one; it says so in the first 5 lines below the title block on each GO. With TTBs you had to carry all of uncanceled ones until a new TT was issued.

>Now, you need to keep at least two separate 3-ring binders to put the timetable and special instructions PLUS all active System GOs in one and all the active GNs in the other. Lord help you if you run on trackage rights territory. You have to double up on the binders just so you have the other road's latest timetable and special instruction, plus ALL the active GOs, SI revisions, and superintendent notices . . . plus your change of clothes.

This is the desktop mentality, which began creeping in during the late 1970s. When I hired out, everything fit in one or two back pockets. I for one fail to see why someone from the BNSF needs to know about all the gory details of the RSV terminal. For the rare occasion a BNSF crew might go into the terminal, get a UP pilot.
