One can wish they had acted a little differently, without hating them.

Personally, I don't know whether there were many things the cops could have done differently in this situation, to effect a different outcome (i.e. saving the life of the suspect) without putting themselves in grave danger. We're talking about a person who is armed and delusional, after all.

Society failed him, his family, and not least the people who died by his hand, by not preventing him from letting his mental illness deteriorate to this point. There were many warnings.
