If you go to the following photo taken at the East end of the Barstow Yard prior to 1976 that is posted on line on the following webpage link at:

What you see what appears to be a main line track branching off on the right side of the photo of the East end of the ATSF Barstow Yard and the map link from this photo confirms there was definately and old main line right of way coming into Barstow as well at one time before the previous one was built.
Also I have noticed that with some pecularity that Old Highway 58 runs paralell to the old right of way just as its new freeway section into Barstow that was built recently along the recently built new main line right away according to the maps and satelitte photos. Does the BNSF Railway or the State of California actually have a preference to build these two transportation corridors parallel to one another in the Barstow area? As seems to be the case involving there locations?
Aparently the Mojave to Barstow ATSF railine was relocated in the Barstow area back in 1976 to better serve the needs of the new ATSF Classification Yard at that time. Right?
Is there actually a highly perched public viewing area to view the BNSF Barstow Classification Yard?
