I am not aware of a way to link directly to an image that is posted as an attachment at sites using Phorum software (Trainnews, Altamont, NGDiscussion, and others). Of course, you can link to a thread, as per my example above.

If you want to link directly to an image, such as DrewJ and others often do at Altamont, the link needs to point to the image itself (file type .JPG, .PNG, .GIF, etc.)

As you can see from the link code above, and copied below:

there is no reference to an image file. Links with embedded ".php" codes are not likely to bring up the desired images. Here is the similar code from DrewJ's recent post:

Note the direct reference to the ".jpg" file, and the link works, as you can see in Drew's post.

If you want to link directly to images at Trainnews.org, try posting them to a FTP type server. PhotoBucket, Flickr, and Trainnews.org all offer that capability, but its not quite as simple as just attaching an image to a post at Trainnews.

Note: the code above shows *** in place of the Trainnews IP address as otherwise the forum software tries to reinterpret the IP and displays my message incorrectly. Similarly, there is an embedded space in "http", to force the software to display the code.
