TOM... I was in Rancho nov 88 to april 92... and did ride for about $1.50 from capitol couple times hanging off the back platform.. also on ride to Escuintla we stopped at one point while the crew eased 4 flats with ballast up against the back of the train and they continued with us for some distance.. Never rode steam but saw them go by.. checked out sad scenes of Zacapa, Pto San Jose and Barrios... ..Took one shot of "Easter" day 11 car train.. and shot one in Rancho once.. power failed so they simply cut the pass. cars and took off. == Since the wonderful railroad days of 40's 50's ..lost much interest in RRs..except to kind of circle states on Amtrak once a yr. = Guate City would startle you for changes and growth... The train terminal is a rr museum..has the 3 private cars , etc. When operating..an official showed me how much it cost to bld the private car ..he had the bill of sale as I recall. +++ A question for you Tom or any other knowlegeable person.. About winter 1941.. 4 Berk High fans drove .. nasty rainy dark day to Pt Reyes and on to Duncans Mills.. then to Jenner.. We know there was trackage to Markhams and to the Willow Creek Mill... but we imagined that we were seeing abandoned ROW byd Jenner and to the first gulch north of the Russian River... Could that be? = But our goal in that first larger gulch was to check out a "railroad" blt with straps of steel over wood beams.. We got soaking wet sloshing thru the brush..but we did find that indeed there were remains of just such a "tram"... Do you or anyone else know if rails did pass Jenner and what it was that we observed?? Thx ff
