As a railfan in the 1970's and 1980's I hung out at Mojave quite frequently. So I can answer some of the above questions. As the person above said, Mojave was a crew change point but was extended Barstow-Bakersfield (AT&SF) & LA-Bakersfield (SP) but I do not know when this happened. I believe it did happen in the 1950s from what I have heard. They did (like is still the case today) have a few locals that go on and off duty there. Yes, the SP San Jauquin Daylight stopped there in both directions. I do not know if the AT&SF San Fransisco Chief stopped there in the middle of the night for Passengers, but I heard it did. I would have to see an old AT&SF Public Timetable to know. The very begining of the end for the Depot itself came on March 20, 1986, when the Mojave Interlocking Operator position was eliminated and control of current day South Mojave and Cameron Control Points/X-overs were transferred to the SP LA Saugus Dispatcher at the old P.E. Building at 6th and Main in Downtown LA. Currently, UP Omaha Dispatcher 54 controls these Control Points. Approximately 10 Months later, the Agent and Chief Clerk positions were eliminated and the only round the clock employee left was the "Do it all" Yard Clerk. In early 1987, a sewer line break was discovered and the health Dept. condemmed the plumbing in the Depot. SP did not want to fix it. At the end of April, 1988, SP rented some office space in town and vacated the Depot and it would never be occupied or used again. It sat until April 1992 (exactly 4 years) before SP tore it down. I understand that they started tearing it down first thing in the morning and by Noon that day it was gone. When I passed through that afternoon, a crew called the SP Dispatcher on the radio, and said, "Hey Dispatcher, somebody stole the Mojave Depot today!"
