Burlington Northern passenger service attitude

Can anyone offer knowledgeable insight into the then-newly formed Burlington Northern and the company's attitude towards passenger trains? Given that the company was formed in 1970, with most railroads choking on and trying to kill money-losing passenger trains, I've often found it curious that there were so many passenger cars painted in the new BN colors...even though in 1970 Amtrak was also formed.

I have collected with relative ease a good little collection of BN passenger-related timetables, linen, etc. and there always seem to be a few BN passenger (not the scoots) slides on Ebay.

What did I miss here...what's being left out?
