When Burlington Northern was formed, a fellow named Louis Menk came in and decided that the passenger trains must go. Up until that time, B.N. employees were proud of the passenger service and equipment that they ran.
President Nixon didn't sign the legislation that created the National Railroad Passenger Corporation until 1971.
