reopening an old post to update info:

There both narrow gauge and standard gauge railroads in Jenner in the 1901-1910 era. It is not clear if they ever connected to the NWP RR in Markham.

SG Track ran west(ish) along the current Highway 1 to the large mill in Russian Gulch, About 1/2 of the way track branched east up on to the Rule Ranch to reach lumber (this ROW is clearly traceable on Google maps and Google Earth.) Track also ran up into the timber in Russian Gulch. The south headland of Russian Gulch had a lumber chute, lumber yard, and hoist house arrangement served by a spur. Lumber was apparently shipped by sea from that point.

It is not clear if track ran from Markham to Jenner- there are some odd cuts on the hill next to the highway at the lower end of Jenner flats that may indicate it.

On the Markham side there was an incline with track on top of the ridge and into the upper part of Jenner gulch. This appears to have been ng and is also partially traceable from Google Earth. This may the source of the wreckage commented on in the earlier email.

The current IRMP for the Jenner headlands project has discussion, photos, and maps of the railroad(s). There are also photos of the trains in the State Park visitor center in Jenner including one that appears to be of an engine house in Jenner (or possibly Russian Gulch) and more photos are online at the Sonoma County library's heritage collection.

A horsedrawn railroad ran from Duncan's Mill at Bridgehaven to Duncan's landing. This is shown on the USGS topo for (?19201?)- I have never seen a photo of it. There was a railyard on the point above the cove.

An lastly a small railroad ran from the quarry at goat Rock to the Russian River Jetty in the 1920s. The Goat rock parking lot has numerous pieces of rolling stock (including what appears to be a couple of sets of trucks buried next to it.
