Hu George and everyone--- Merry Christmas & Happy New Year...
Hey George--
There is only ONE rail route over Altamont Pass.... The Union Pacific(UPRR) which
in this case is the former Western Pacific route.. (WP)..

The other route was the Southern Pacific (SP), formerly the Central Pacific (CP) transcontinental line extension from Sacramento to Oakland, via Niles..
Unfortunately, this line was abandoned around 1986 and the rails removed.
