I believe all existing student loan debt should be forgiven and there's two reasons for this. One, prior to 2008 there was a promise that if you went to college, got good grades, got your degree, if you were willing to relocate for a job something would be out there waiting for you and in a reasonable amount of time you'd be earning enough to pay back your loans. That was a promise. But the promise was a lie told by those who destroyed our economy. If someone could go back in time and tell everyone that "Hey! Just so you all know, in 2008 Wall Street guys will cause a great recession (history will probably record it as a genuine depression) and there won't be any new jobs for 15 years. Knowing this, if you still want to borrow $50,000 for school be our guest but don't expect any help when you can't pay your loans back." But of course we didn't get that message ten years ago. Like I said, the promise was a lie.
Dude, if you were able to pay back your loans then good for you. Most of us are stuck with $35,000 to $65,000+ in student loan debt and have been unemployed for two years even after sending out 500 resumes and reading a few dozen books that gives advise. So don't @#$%& too loudly, you have it good.
Secondly, those who caused this train wreck were bailed out and they're all off being rich right now - buying $2.5M Superman comics. They weren't punished. They didn't learn anything - and the door is wide open for them to do it again I mean why not? There was no down side. If we forgive all outstanding student loan debt they will learn something and it will hurt.
So there it is - a two-fer.
