Yes, you are correct, it was in 1994. That was the head-on collison that I refer to. SP used that as an excuse to change the crew change location to Alpine and Del Rio from Sanderson. I remember not long after that incident, riding Amtrak #2 through Sanderson and it was still a crew change. A few days later, while riding Amtrak #1 we passed through there the morning after it was eliminated as a crew change, and the Operators jobs were abolished. I remember seeing the air conditioner units on the trainside of the Depot removed and Dispatcher HD15 screaming on the radio that he could not issue Track Bulletins to a work train crew that was there, because the communications department had already removed the computers and printers from the Depot!
