Social Security contributions do NOT count towards TIME in Railroad Retirement.

Railroad Retirement contributions DO count towards Social Security.

BUT - you can only collect Railroad Retirement OR Social Security - NOT BOTH.

I am not sure if any of your Social Security contributions would be used in alculating retirement under RRA - that is a question for their office. If you don't collect Railroad Retirement, your Tier II contrbutions are lost.

Of course, by the time I might retire all the rules will have changed.
