The Contibutions of the Ford Presidency to Railroading in America???

Sad News...

As some of you may have already heard that Former President Gerald Ford has just passed away...

As many of you might recall a number of significant events relating to the railroad occured during his Presidency such as the American Freedom Train (AFT) Project for example. What Presidential Acts by Ford supported this project?

What about Conrail? was it formed during his Presidency or shortly thereafter?

What about imporvements to the Amtrak system during Ford's Presidency?

Some of you may remember that President Ford actually campaigned for the Presidency using a Whistle Stop Tour on the back of specialy charter Amtrak trains as well and future Presidents Carter and Reagan would use the railroads for such use as well.

Any more thoughts about the contributions of the Ford Presidency to railroading in America.
