The WRM traded the SN712 to another museum, the WPRM, for other historical equipment. Thus is ensuring that the locomotive is preserved by a museum that has the mission statement to preserve equipment from the WPRR and it's subsideries. So the 712 isn"t facing an uncertain fate. It is preserved. The GGRM is putting the 3194 out for anyone to buy. Unfortunately the highest bidder will probably be a short line that will run it into the ground and then scrap it. I understand the reason given by the GGRM people that they made the decision to sell it and focus the money on their f-units, but it's a shame that this unit has to be sacraficed to preserve something else. I wonder why the PLA does not buy it and add it to their collection. They seem to be willing and able to restore and maintain a growing stable of historic diesels. The 3194 would give them a dynamic braked passenger GP9 to go with their torpedo boat.
