Normally this kind of historic equipment gets inspected by the receiving carrier prior to being accepted in interchange.
Case in point...when I bought the Santa Rosa, which was stored at Niles, the UP sent an inspector to inspect it before they picked it up. It had been thoroughly inspected and a few minor repairs made at my expense before the UP came on site.
All went well and it was moved to Milpitas where it sat over the weekend (being under guard) then moved to Roseville where it was placed on the rear of the MRVHK, the same symbol train as the McCloud cars.
Once it left Roseville, it only stopped a brief few minutes for crew changes in Dunsmuir, Klamath Falls and Eugene and on to Albina. Total trip time was 26 hours.
Having said all that, I doubt that as long as they didn't set off any wayside detectors along the way, nobody looked at them since they left Roseville.
