Sunset for the Cascades ...

... at least for runs along the Tacoma Narrows. In the next couple of years, the "By-pass" of the Pt. Defiance By-Pass" will route trains back along the old NP Prairie line and across the missing "half mile" to connect with the old Milwaukee line. Along I-5, through the backyards of Lakewood's business and industrial districts, and through lovely south Tacoma. Gone will be the vistas along Steilacoom and University Place. Views of the South Sound and the Olympics, will be lost as well. All to save six minutes and ease some predicted congestion.

So here's a shot of what passengers will miss out on:
