Six minutes here, six minutes somewhere else, etc, pretty soon you have saved maybe 30 minutes. That is significant if you want to play in the Seattle-Portland market. This change is being driven by WA DOT, not Amtrak:

The Nelson Bennett tunnel is a choke point, and there is no easy fix.
