Beloved playground loco in jeopardy in Monterey

Following in the footsteps of Salinas, Monterey is now fencing off the beloved SP loco in Dennis the Menace park "to protect our children's safety". Salinas hauled their park playground SP loco off to the train station and put it on display behind a fence a few years ago. The display has several other pieces of rolling stock and signals etc and is well done. However, it appears that the Monterey one will simply be caged and off limits to the kids there in the park. Our grandchildren spent many happy hours on that loco.
