Projected REVENUE for the Polar Express is half a million dollars? Are you serious? I would love to be wrong on this but um...that won't happen. They'd be lucky to gross $50,000 much less net $500,000. Freight in Watsonville has nothing to do with the rest of the branch even if it's operated by the same carrier. UP will gobble up most of the revenue from the bio-fuel business anyway, since they largely control the rates and are the interchanging railroad along with the plant being less than a mile from UP's mainline. As I said, they should follow the NWP's lead and fix the railroad and secure customers along the length of the Santa Cruz branch BEFORE playing with their toys at the Boardwalk. Not even the NWP would attempt to operate the line from Lombard to Windsor if they only had customers in Lombard which sure sounds like the operating proposal put forth by the operators of the Santa Cruz branch.
