Wow! I'm shocked....... No coal trains from Redding, you don't say?
They're learning an expensive lesson in not letting your assets deteriorate, too.
It would be nice to use this segment for some tourist related operation, but, costs are becoming prohibitive, if the line is not maintained to at least "arrested decay" standards.
VCTC has done an excellent job of preventing further damage, and maintaining the condition of the Santa Paula Branch line (Kudos to Kerry!). You can see some of that this weekend at the SP HSTS meet. It is a model of cost effective preventative maintenance and incremental improvements to things like crossings that Santa Cruz might want to look to,
I don't see much prospect for the NWP to the Bay Area, any where north of the gravel, either.
