In an editorial published in 11/16/12 Moscow/Pullman Daily News, Nick Gier of Moscow, Idaho, a Philosophy professor at the University of Idaho voiced his strong opposition to
coal trains traveling to Northwest ports. He announced a rally in Sandpoint, Id that was to take place Saturday from Noon to 4 p.m. and also announced a public hearing being held in Spokane.
THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS WILL CONDUCT A "SCOPING" HEARING DEC. 4 FROM 3:00 TO 7:00 PM AT THE SPOKANE INTERSTATE FAIRGROUNDS.
He states that a typical coal train sheds 125 pounds of coal dust per mile along the 800 mile route. And on top of the usual list of problems the trains will cause, the trains will cause hearing loss, threatening of at least two bird species, and threaten the spawning grounds of herring.
It might be interesting to attend.
