You missed a salient point. from the original post:

While 125 * 800 does equal 50 tons, that is in reference to the entire train, which might be upto 15,000 tons of coal, in total.
I wish to point out that I have no evidence that the 125 lbs per mile is correct or not, I am simply referring to the math here.
