I remember helping Howard with the move of the Doane Crane from the Oakland area to wherever. The scene I remember is the crane emerging from the east portal of the Caldecott Tunnel. It was uphill and it was just inching along it seemed. You can get a good closeup view of the east portal on Google Maps. Then helping him with the picking up and loading of some rail from a place that was totally overgrown with tall grass. It seemed rather dangerous as I recall that there was no safety brake so that if your slipped off the pedal you would drop the load. But it all worked out. My memory is hazy here but I think that location was to have been a possible site for a railway museum but it never came to pass at that location. Perhaps someone will fill in the blanks. It's been over 50 years. Best wishes to Howard; I hope he is healthy and doing well.
